of all primordials I am most
among my children is your host
yet now my name is not revered
often spat, and often feared
come now young ones, don't deride
speak my name in Greek or hide.

Among the plants they call me young
from teosinte I have sprung
My sugar-making may explosive sound
Now I'm grown the whole world round
Speak of me, for I am near

I point to that which calls me
no matter how it galls me
I stand here helpless in this field
but from this task I cannot yield
Some will tell you I'm loded
others will say I'm outmoded
yet if you fear you might become lost
I would surely be worth the cost

TFG Ch. 8 Whiskey and Bye
“Have some wine!” said the Hare just as Esther sat down.
Esther resisted the urge to say she saw none, but the grin of the Hare remained on his face waiting so patiently that he looked like he might wait for a tree to grow from a sapling into old knotted age before he’d do anymore.
Matthias was a bit more impatient than that.
“I don’t see any wine,” he shrugged.
“There isn’t any,” sighed the Hare sadly but became instantly afterwards quite animatedly again; hardly had he finished his wistful bow when he beamed a new grin, “but there is a fine amount of whisky!”
And here he produced a huge bottle of it and with great gusto poured each of them a glass.
Esther’s face paled in alarm at her glass even as Matthias was holding up his in playful gratitude to the Hare.
“I’ve never had whisky,” said Esther. “Well, except in a Bailey’s.”
“Well, they have all the bails you could possibly want outside for the horses,” offered the Hare.
He took a stereotypical slug of his own whisky and

So heatedly did these strange camels run into each other, trip over each other, tie knots into each other’s necks and puzzle-piece into each other’s humps and twister-twine into each other’s knobby sinewy legs that the only way to release the pressure was to fume out smoke from their mouths like a train wreck.
The three bipeds meanwhile did not move a muscle as they watched the dramatic display with more amazement than any train robbery might have induced. Though amidst the mingled mashed camels and through the hazy smoke there was someone coughing if it was not the wind. That someone was in a few locations quickly or there was a whole gang of someones. Once the smoke cleared many of the collars of the camels had been stolen clean off by likely a band of good old fashioned bandits of the old Western variety with a bit of a ninja twist.
It was only then that the strange figure at the prow of the human triangle with arm outstretched like the Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come flapped down

AloW Ch. 29 Making Two Lines Rhyme
Alice had never had a real English teacup in her hands before. Turning it carefully so as not to spill the tea near to the brim, she recalled her grandmother’s old china in the corner cupboard. They were painted with roses, stars, and other delicate things. Though Alice was not one for frill and doilies, she had always liked the teacups together like that. Perhaps it was because every antique cup was a bit of a cup of wonder in a way. Inside the little centers was a secret glossy door to some unknown tiny realm of mystery just as much as behind every oak in the local park there was a secret rabbit hole and every old book beyond her reading level told the story of some ancient fairy realm and every looking glass hid what was beyond its reach round the corners it could not reflect.
Yet it was Wonder itself now to realize that the cup in her hands and its tea were the least of wonders here.
She was in a little cluttered home filled to the brim with so many little curios of fancy. There

Spy: *Sighs* Because they are in de Nile.
Sniper: What!? How is this joke not safe for work!?
Engineer: Because alligators are not safe at most work places.

The Clever Shepherd and the King
[Opening Sequence: The Magical Book Opens]
(The golden book glows as it opens. Pages flip rapidly, revealing a starlit Armenian countryside with rolling hills and a shepherd standing near his flock of sheep. The scene zooms in on the shepherd’s face as he smiles confidently.)
Marcello (voiceover):"Tonight, under the sparkling lights of New York City, we’ll step back in time to the mountains of Armenia, where a clever shepherd outwitted a king with his quick thinking and unshakable wit. This is the tale of The Clever Shepherd and the King."
(The page transitions to a nighttime scene in Times Square, with its iconic lights and bustling crowd.)
Scene 1: Times Square, Present Day
(The scene opens with Tyler, a teenage boy in a hoodie, wandering through Times Square. He’s holding a flyer for a city-wide trivia contest. He stops in front of a large LED screen showing the words: “Are You Smarter Than a Shepherd? Win $10,000!”)
Tyler: (sighing)"I’m never going to win. Everyone else is way
Marcus shifted in his saddle as his horse trotted onwards. It had been almost two weeks since he'd set off on his journey to the capitol, and it was still at least another three weeks of riding to go before he'd get there. Not counting any hold ups or diversions he encountered along the way.The country was crawling with strange beasts and unknown terrors, that's why most people tended to settle down pretty quickly. But Marcus had chosen to take the role of messenger, meaning he had to cross the country and face whatever it threw at him. So far the fates were being kind to him on his first run, the creatures he'd come across being small and...

AloW Ch. 16 Dressed in Green
Matthias was first to lift his head, though he hated leaving the quivering Esther still huddled on the ground as he pulled himself to his feet.
They were in a wood more than a park, though it was gentle woodland more restful than a pile of trees in the center of a city. The breeze sang in the lush green trees and a late afternoon sun of sparkling komorebi danced more serenely and perhaps even more lovingly in its loneliness than in any waltz. There was freeness and candor to this small grove like the freshness of an open mountain pass but with a homier feel. There was nothing tight or intoxicating like the park of Heartland. Contrariwise! It was so real that it was more surreal than anything surreal he had ever imagined— at least super-natural to the natural. It was as though he himself was the literary figure standing in a place far more real than he was, or at least more genuine, which was not quite the same thing. He had even to wonder if he was the dreamer or merely a part of

He waves and lets out a terrible roar.
