Parisian Roulette - Chapter 3, October 31st
The past month has been mixed experience. When I returned from the hospital, crutching ineptly into the Fraternity House, I was greeted with applause from my fellow members. The President had walked up and inspected my long leg cast, rapping the hard shell with his knuckles.
“Well done, Irving. A plaster cast to treat your broken leg, as you were ordered. How long do you have to wear it?”
“Eight weeks, the doctor said.”
“Excellent, we’ll enjoy seeing you crutch around the House.”
There were perks … I had been excused from running errands and performing other tasks to help the prominent members of The Fraternity and in one swoop every senior member knew me by name.
Unfortunately, those had been the only positive aspects of my ‘accident’.
The negatives were the throbbing pain in my broken leg, which had lasted for more than a week, and which kept me awake for several nights. And then there was my clumsiness trying to move around on crutches and the muscle ache in my arms
