Moonlight Melody
The girl sat all alone on a soft patch of glass. It was a particularly starry night, with luminous stars dancing amongst the dark indigo skies. Yet her attention wasn't on them. Rather it was the moon that shone brightly.
Her eyes studied and admired the craters on the moon's surface, which looked subtle to a faraway human's naked eye on the earth. She was enchanted by its silver aura, feeling at ease.
Even with this found serenity, the girl still longed for something. Her desperation to achieve it has been cutting away at her being despite the comfort of the moon.
She took out an ethereal, silver flute and played an ancient, mystical lullaby on it. The girl played as long as she could. Yet nothing that would've listened to her song came. She looked around and sighed. She laid on the grass, all curled up, trying to keep herself from crying but she ended up whimpering.
The whimpering turned into deep wailing, her cries echoing throughout the lonely bamboo forest.
Her wish hasn't come.
But she felt a soft hand stroke her hair.
She jolted up, wiping away her tears. She glanced at whoever's in front of her.
There, standing in front of her and surrounded by the luscious green bamboo is a woman wearing an elegant white furisode with a deep violet peony pattern on it. Her long ebony hair flowed in the air as if it was levitating.
"Mama!" The girl jumped and hugged the woman tightly. She felt at ease with her wish granted.
"My dear child, I am sorry for being away for so long," The girl's mother said. "Now, let's see your father. I'm sure he misses me as much as you did."
