Red Elderberry

Unlike the famous superfruit Black Elderberry, which is just now finishing blooming, the Red Elderberry is toxic and already ripened its fruits.  The whole plant is toxic, but the berries are supposedly edible when cooked, but I have found NOTHING to back up that Wikipedia claim.  Yes, I was stupid enough to taste 1 berry when I found this plant and was trying to identify it.  No I did not swallow it . . . I spit it back out.  I'm only half stupid.  I can see why people would not realize the berries would cause gastric distress, since the flavor is pleasant.  Still glad I didn't swallow it.  Either way, I love how the bright red fruit contrasts the plant's green foliage and the green ferns not only color, but in pattern as well.  May not be good eating, but made for a great picture.
