Description
There is more to the animal world than just your dogs, cats, and horses. Reptiles need our love just as much as them.
Just 'cause they are not "appealing" and seem to be seen as something bad. EDUCATE yourself. Don't be all, "Eww, reptiles are gross 'cause... uh... reptiles are gross..." Ya know? THEY ARE NOT VERMIN. THEY ARE NOT KILLERS.
Don't categorize them as being brainless, un-evolved, nasty, slimy, man-eaters, that are even seen as some kinda Satan spawn.
More people are bitten by your "harmless" domestic dog then poisonous snakes (along with big cats, bears, and wolves COMBINED).
I suppose geckos are lucky 'cause they can be sooooo damn cute. Don't forget the rest! They all have personalities, likes, dislikes, just like any other animal. They can suffer, feel pain, and this should not be overlooked.
As I've said before: Don't you dare call yourself an animal lover is you don't count in reptiles too.
stamp template by ~Kencho scales are a random pic i had on file, and stamp made my me.
i find reptiles to be very appealing actually, snakes in particular.
there is a certain charm to reptiles that is not shared by other Classes of animal that is hard to describe.
its a shame that there is so many negtive myths surrounding them. did you know a majority of adults still think an amphibian and a reptile is the same thing? and use the terms interchangeably...these same poeple are the ones who insist on the stariotype that reptiles are slimy, disease ridden stupid or aggressive animals.
and alot of that is not true, even when it comes to inteligence
while its true with most reptiles, there is a primitive gap in social inteligence and cognitive perception compared to other animals..there are many acceptions to this rule...so for any curious here are some interesting facts about our scaly friends that might debunk some myths..
Iquanas,Monitors, bearded dragons and Tortoises can discern faces and recodnize routine and patterns,as well as respond to thier own name and physical gestures...monitors and iquanas can be trained to come when they are called,to use a litter box and the smartest ones can even be taught to do tricks like a dog. iguanas and monitors also have an impressive ability of social comunication and inteligence for reptiles.
King Cobras are among the few reptiles (aside from crocadilians) where both parents watch over thier eggs, infact sometimes they will even look after the young as they are seen off. in addition King Cobras are considdered to be among the smartest of reptiles, and the smartest of all snakes..due to this intelligence and their excellent discerning and perception ability. its the only known venomous snake that is capable of being tamed well enough to be handled by hand (no crook or cane). this is because these snakes can better discern a threat from harmless person...they know thier venom is limited and are more reserved in its bite so they are more likely to tolerate being handled...and like some other reptiles they also have impressive memories and can recodnize faces and routine. and thus they can be conditioned and tamed by those they know and trust.
reptiles are not slimy...that is a myth,a healthy reptile will have either rough or smooth dry skin, the only time they will be oist is if they were wet.
snakes do not size up thier owners so they can eat them. that is anouther myth that poeple haver perpetuaded about pythons and boas. snakes do not do this in the wild,as they cannot just "size up" thier prey in preporation of eating them...they are ususally smart enough to know something they can down, from something they cannot. its also worth saying that most boas and pythons cannot actually devour a fully grown adult human anyway.
reptiles are creepy or ugly looking? i still donot get why poeple think this....take one look at a sunbeam snake,a green iquana or a Chamilian and tell me these beutifull animals are creepy looking.
