The moment passes you by unnoticed, its locks and keys too delicate to hold without breaking the treasure within. The sky is rosy with possibility and the thing you keep chained below meeting notes and color coded agendas hungers. The moment isn't for you to grasp, a formless shadow over your blossoming garden maze. The sky is slate and charcoal, swollen with the promise of thunder, and a straight path cuts through the heart of your labyrinth, beckoning. The moment is bigger than you - it presses against the cage of your ribs like an escape artist scrabbling for the hidden latch that will loose every tie keeping you grounded. The sky is a bruised peach violet, smeared across the western horizon, and the feeling at the nexus of your multitudes breathes.

I am not a sunflower

I am leaving home to become a wayward sunflower, holding an ink pen and faded travel map to navigate the twisting street maze of unfamiliar cities. The warm rain embraces the grid in its comforting presence. I have left with two presents; a knit blanket from home and a polka dot pair of rain boots. I eat dried sunflower seeds and think of you - a maze of contradictions to chart through travel. I cross many paths but travel alone, the memory of your presence fine company among a brain-fold maze of old synapses pointing the way home. The road twists through orchards and sunflower fields, through drought, snow, rain. Long forgotten kings reign over crumbling ruins left to travel the footnotes of history, rarely blooming like a sunflower in an undergraduate thesis. Their ghostly presence follows me from the lush green of home to the muffled cacophony descending into the subway maze. The deer enter the pasture an hour before sunset, the unbearable heat beginning to sink behind the treeline; relief comes from the east, whirling tangles into loose hair. I can taste the equinox on the horizon. The house down the lane is still being built. but the crows have already staked their claim, five for silver, competing for the summit. They flee as the geese land gracefully into the green, far from the barn that houses the cows. The pond will wake soon, frogs and toads and crickets celebrating the end of day. Somewhere, a heron settles in for the night; somewhere, a fox peers from the underbrush; somewhere, the front door locks. But in this moment, the field is cast in gold, freshly hewn grass cradling the deer. The sidewalk ends where I stand, at the edge of everything, waiting, as the world spins on without me.

Someone once asked if I had ever been in love. The answer is yes, a thousand times over. Yes, I have loved people, but also places, books, animals. The Hospital Is Determined to Keep Me Forever

It was supposed to be a quick little hysterectomy - laproscopic, in-and-out, go home the same day. Instead, my kidney got nicked in the process and now I have a near-constant need to pee. The hysterectomy was Wednesday morning. I'm sure there's a lot of overlap in all the equipment down there, especially as my uterus was swollen to 18cm (the average being 9cm), so I'm not exactly holding it against anyone. I ended up transferring to a different hospital with a better urology team. The need is still pretty constant, but the intervals have gotten longer - at first I was having to go every 20, 30 minutes, then every 45, an hour, and if I'm lucky I can make it two hours without having to get up now. My sleep schedule is shot to hell and I still have to keep hydrated in the meantime. I can handle everything else - the pain, the being in the hospital, the boredom - but the constant need for the bathroom is absolutely killing me. The worst of the pain seems to have passed now, though bending my way in and out of bed still hurts. I'll have a follow-up in six weeks and might be getting the kidney stint removed then if things look good. Given how things went last time, I am very nervous about clots again, particularly since I can't be on blood thinners while I deal with this. In that respect, it may be for the best that I have to constantly get up. Gonna wear these compression socks religiously tho. I'll tell you what really ticks me off - from 9:30 pm on Tuesday to Saturday afternoon, my total food intake consisted of a milkshake, two chicken nuggets, half a mini muffin, and some gelato. AND I DIDNT LOSE ANY WEIGHT ARE YOU FUCKING SERIOUS. DONT TELL ME DIETING WORKS WHEN FUCKING ANOREXIA APPARENTLY DOESN'T FFS

It's Been a Hot Minute

It's me again - I'm still alive and kicking. Even writing a bit on occasion. I have some deviations scheduled for you fine people that I've been sitting on for a while, some of them years. It's just hard to get enthused about this place anymore. A lot has happened since the last update - I've moved for starters. Mimi is in her eighties and was getting too old for the stairs, so we were looking to downgrade. The new place is a brand new build, never been lived in. I've been here since April now. I do miss my gigantic room, but I got rid of enough stuff that the new one is plenty of space. It's a pretty cozy existence. The cats have adjusted well, though Fluffy seems to have transitioned to a full-time indoor cat. Stormy is still tentative about going outside, but does go. Neither one enjoys the process of moving at all - Fluffy will at least be still and quiet, but Stormy cries and cries if he has to be in the car.
