My pitch for a Godzilla comic book, inspired by James Stokoe's GODZILLA: The Half-Century War: GODZILLA: Legacy follows three generations of one family as they, as well as the world, find themselves living in a new age of gods and monsters. Starting from 1954, with Godzilla making himself known to the world, to fifty years later, GODZILLA: Legacy is a love letter to Godzilla and the kaiju genre as a whole. This would be a twelve issue series, featuring nearly every kaiju in the Toho roster. What do you guys think? Do you like it? Love it? Hate it? The first group is comprised of movies that are attempting commentary, such as the original Gojira, Mothra vs Godzilla, Godzilla vs Biollante, GMK and the recent Godzilla Minus One. The second group is made up of the movies that are going more for spectacle, like Godzilla vs Megalon, Godzilla vs SpaceGodzilla, Godzilla Final Wars and the Monsterverse movies to name a few. Shin Godzilla, however, feels like a movie that is trying its hardest to straddle the line between commentary AND spectacle, but it can't quite pull it off. The characters aren't very well defined, Godzilla has little to no discernable personality on screen, the political diatribe gets boring after the first half hour, and without the political BS the story is still boring. I'll concede the movie is visually good, and Shiro Sagisu turns out a BANGER soundtrack.
