Soma just growing into a full ass man during this event XD but man he's a cutie, especially when he's smiling and waving at his mum as she cheers him on.

Vicki clutched her camera nervously. She was always nervous when she watched her baby compete. It didn’t matter that he had been riding for years now, and she had seen him compete many times and he had never really had a bad accident or injury. But horses were so dangerous, and you could never know what was going to happen. Luckily Luke was there with a reassuring arm around her shoulder, but her hands still tightened around the camera strap as she stared towards the starting point where Soma would at some point appear.

It had taken a lot of convincing that she should not be at the start line, and Soma had especially pointed out the best spots if she wanted to see a lot of his ride. So, they had gotten prime position at the water complex where they would be able to see 5 of the jumps and get plenty of photo chances. Once he was safely out of sight, they would make their way up to Government House to see him cross the finish line and celebrate with him.

The wait seemed to go forever despite knowing he was very early in the schedule. She kept imagining the sound of the whistle warning a horse was approaching. Kept picturing something going horribly wrong over the first jumps and then scolding herself for even thinking such a terrible thing. She was almost ready to leave the spot and try to get a better view down the course when Luke tightened his arm around her at the very clear warning whistle.

“Here he comes.” He smiled and pride oozed off him as he watched the kid he had adopted into his heart and helped to raise into this capable man ride around such an impressive course with a confident ease. Vicki’s nerves dropped the instant he appeared, and the camera started clicking and whirring like it was about to take off. She whooped and cheered after every jump and as he entered the water in front of her, she couldn’t help yelling out “We love you, honey!!!” and waving him on.

Soma turned at the noise and instantly was all smiles as he waved at his mum. It was not so serious he would ignore her, even in the middle of a competition. Vicki felt her chest tighten at how happy and confident he looked and snapped a picture of him. Then clutching her camera again, she remained with her eyes glued to the pair until they were well out of sight. It was only at Luke’s gentle tug that she realized they had to get to the finish in time or they would miss it and set off at a brisk pace as her husband was left grabbing their things and following behind her.
