As the feelings of dread started to creep in Lash decided to put them aside with some exploring. Every few minutes, she’d hop out of her seat, wandering up and down the aisle, peering at the other passengers. Arthur, half-asleep, gave a groggy warning to stay put, but she was too fascinated by everyone around her. Especially the tall, burly man seated a few rows ahead. His features were unmistakably canine—thick, reddish-orange fur poking out from beneath his collar, a mane around his neck, and a fiery gleam in his eyes. Lash tilted her head, staring openly. "Arthur," she whispered loudly, "that one looks like me but his color is way brighter. What do you think he is?"

The Arcanine man’s ear twitched, and he turned to face her, irritation clear on his face. "What are you staring at, missy?" he growled, his voice rumbling low. Lash blinked, unfazed, leaning in closer as if trying to catch a better look at what he was doing. He grumbled louder, his fiery gaze narrowing. “Mind your own business.”

Before Arthur could stir from his half-dream state, a woman sitting across the aisle rolled her eyes and stretched lazily. A Luxray, her electric blue and black fur sleek, with golden eyes that crackled with energy. “Knock it off, fire-breath,” she said to the Arcanine, waving a paw dismissively. “She’s just curious.”

The Luxray woman leaned over toward Lash, her gaze soft but amused. “Hey there, what’re you looking for, shortcake?” Lash shrugged, her sharp teeth flashing in a grin. “I just like looking at everyone. You all do such interesting things!” The Luxray chuckled and patted the seat next to her. “Come sit by me then, if you wanna chat. I don’t bite.”

Lash plopped herself down without hesitation, already absorbed in a new conversation, while Arthur simply sighed and pulled his pillow back around his neck, figuring this trip was going to be anything but quiet.
