A few hours ago, SpaceX launched a reusable Falcon 9 into the upper atmosphere from Vandenburg Air Force Base (Santa Barbara, California). Even from San Francisco, over 250 miles north of Los Angeles, I could see the rocket’s awe-striking ascent. The air surrounding the rocket lit up into a ball of kaleidoscopic aurora.
