They were highy trained it was the aircraft that was the problem.  The jet was very twitchy especially landing.  It had a very narrow margin of error in it’s minimum landing speed.  Add the fact you ejected straight down if you had to bail didn’t help matters any.  It’s minimum landing was over 200 mph plus extra speed for fuel load.  Miss it by a mile or two the plane lost lift and fell like a stone.  Indeed a beautiful and super fast jet but very difficult to land.
