When she was s juvenile she ran away from all the lies and duplicity that came with the life of a nobleman's daughter. Since she wasn't bright or flamboyant or girly enough to fit in with the other pretentious girls and was too outspoken for the gentleman, she decided she would make her own path and ditch all the superfluous baubles and silks that her family would drape all over her in an attempt to "brighten up such a dull complexion" She only took enough money and jewels with her so that she could safely travel and find a place where she could fit.

After a few days of traveling, she made it to a port where she chose a ship that looked the most promising and climbed aboard. Once on deck, she looked for the captain's quarters to be able to put forth her proposition to the captain and secure herself accommodations aboard the ship so she could further her journey. She opened to door and was instantly appalled at the chaos and messy state the captain's quarters were in. And upon seeing that they were vacant she proceeded to clean and organize the mess. Among the mess were sheaves of numbers and tallies and all sorts of random notes, it looked like whoever wrote them couldn't take the time to tally up expenses properly and she started making new sheets of clean crisp records. 

She was so engrossed in the work that she didn't notice when the Captain entered and stood there watching her, rather than be upset he was surprised at what the young vayron had been able to do and the gumption to just do it, disregarding if it would upset anyone. He decided then and there that whoever she was she would be a beneficial member to his crew and proceeded to make it happen. 

Arleigh was surprised at the easy manner of the Captain over her reorganizing his cabin and that it was so easy for her to procure transport. little did she know that this first meeting would turn into a long and adventurous friendship.
