Location Mono Basin, California
Description
California. Eastern Sierra. In recent weeks the "Creek Fire," burning in the Sierra Nevada south of Yosemite since early September, and the largest single-source wildfire in the state's history at 330,000+ acres (another still-burning fire further north in the state is over 1 million acres, but had several lightning ignition sources that burned together into a "complex" fire), has smoke blowing over the Sierra Nevada crest into and above valleys in Eastern California. That smoke is the background for this evening scene, looking south from an 8,000+ foot elevation vista point overlooking Mono Basin. These peaks are along the eastern face of the Sierra, as layers fading to a "dirty sepia" sky.
