Description
The Hiyprix is one of the oldest branches of the Giant lineage, a once thriving super predator made low by the ice age of the Deiomachy.
These animals are massive, near exclusively stalking large prey in various warmer regions of the Maullands.
Behind those powerful jaws is a large brain that can predict travel routes and plan ambushes, often striking like jawed thunder when least expected.
Despite this power, they struggle to compete with the faster and more adaptive predators produced by the Deiomachy for prey.
Frequently you'll find Hiyprix grazing on soft vegetation and squashes to supplement unsuccessful hunting.
Hiyprix prefer secluded lives from each other. Low frequency grumble chatter across the miles is a common way for them to keep track of territory, potential mates, note prey movements or warn of danger.
Sibling or mated pairs may occasionally stick close to take advantage of plentiful times.
Hiyprix have developed unique relations with the peoples of the Lardromor continent.
Most groups are wary of these natural death dealers, others respectfully cautious.
Some Manavan Nomad groups in the colder Maulland regions have a symbiotic tradition dating back to the Deiomachy. Hiyprix will rest at these tribal grounds for the warmth, while the tribe gains protection from smaller predators.
These relations have gotten close enough for these Hiyprix to be painted and dressed with a houdah to mark them as trusted animals. It has been recorded that some mother Hiyprix will leave their calf with a tribe between hunts for safekeeping.
Lorperor Prides view Hiyprix with some reverie as symbols of power, but are usually viewed as competition for a good hunt.
Lorperor Houses of Deiroa prize their bones and teeth as excellent gifts for their god or boons for warriors. Hiyprix are extinct in Deiroa and nearly so at its borders.
The Jabikah Giants simply loathe the creatures, being just the right size to be within their prey range. Their relations are near purely that of predator-prey.
The Vulgoth admire the Hiyprix and view it with affection, though often say it pales in comparison to the armored and savage Goreix of Helkrie.
