#339: Vegan food is gross

Description

What they say: "Vegan food is gross!"
What I hear: "I suck at cooking!"

I can understand why some people believe that vegan food is gross. It's because their own diet is very limited: they always depend on 3 ingredients for every single meal they eat: meat, dairy, eggs. When you take those 3 things away, they panic and don't know what to eat.
I can also understand why some people believe that all vegan food is gross, based on a few dishes they tried in the past and did not like, or didn't make them feel full. While I think it's a little close-minded to completely write off veganism completely based on a few meals you tried, I also understand where these feelings come from. There are plenty of vegan products and meals I've tried (some made by friends, others in restaurants) which I didn't like at all or which didn't make me feel satisfied. Everyone is different. Everyone likes different kinds of food. But that's the great thing about being vegan: every vegan diet is different: it can be done in thousands of different ways. While some prefer to mostly stick to fruit and raw veggies, others prefer fatty vegan junkfood while others prefer to eat meals that look and taste similar to their old eating habits. And then you also have people like me, who like a bit of everything. The foods you see in the image are what my diet looks like. I love good food, but I also want it to be balanced, healthy and cheap. I love wholefoods, but I also love vegan hotdogs, vegan sandwich spread and vegan sweets. There are over 80,000 edible plant species in the world and millions of different ways to turn them into meals you love. All it takes is a bit of research. (I'm not saying that taste pleasure is a justification to kill animals, but I don't think you need to miss out on taste just because you can't cook well).

So we're working on a cook book. For people who want to eat (more) plantbased, but can't cook and have little money to spend. All recipes are from scratch: we're keeping in mind that not every country has access to vegan sausages and cheeses (yet), so we'll teach you to make your own (as our ancestors from India and Vietnam have been doing for thousands of years). I hope you'll love the book when it comes out. It's a 100% charity project, and all the profit will be used for Pupa's animal sanctuary. But for those who can't afford a copy: I'll be posting several of our recipes online. I hope you enjoy them!
