I didn't know my heart was made of bone: Forever hollow. Empty. So unfeeling. Who knew that aching, breaking all alone Would make me feel like I have not been healing?I didn't know my heart was just a ghost: Transparent. Dead. A mere illusion. Gone. Who knew that dancing, prancing like a host Would make me feel so lost and so withdrawn?Who knew that you would leave me waiting here On some small, distant shore 'til I've gone mad? This fall, I found some medicine for me. Oh, never has a thing like you before Healed me and brought a form of sweet salvation. You stitched me back to normal and I'm now So like a person seeing, feeling rain For the first time. But now the lightning strikes. I've grown too fond of you, take more from you. Addiction paralyzes me as I Take more and more of such a selfish soul. Your bitter poison in my veins that no Longer can heal; the stitches now unravel. Oh, Nature, play my heart like silver strings Of some sweet instrument! Your wind lifts me To places far and wide; your sky in spring Inspires birds to fly and sing on key.   The flowers, trees, and grass sway with the air As if they dance in time, a stately waltz. Oh, animals are free, without a care; They live and breathe, not having any faults.   But people do! We torture, maim, and kill Our Mother Nature. Thieves who rob her blind And take those beauties from the world and still Just take and take it all, none left behind.   I fear a never-ending death for you; There’s only so much one alone can do.

Red spider lilies line the path of fate So tragic; I refuse to just let go Of you. You stare at me with lonely eyes But turn and walk into their waiting arms. The foreign metal kitchen makes me shiver as I prepare a simple dinner of macaroni and cheese. Nothing more.   I hear a voice say I need a meat with that, that having a side alone shouldn’t be a meal; but I hear no words as I drain the water from the glistening, damp noodles.   Years ago, my mom had said that I should watch, to help her cook the home-style meals I would come to miss. I said yes—but realize I say it here.   I stab the macaroni in the pot, carelessly putting the food in my mouth and swallowing it whole, hoping the loneliness follows it down my throat.
