The Winds of Nord [part 5 of 5]
With the last remnants of energy he had left, he pushed his body to the side. If he departed from the current, he would technically no longer go with its flow and that meant only one thing: free fall.
He dived to the side, screaming at the top of his lungs. He could see the greenery beneath expand, gradually increasing in detail, enough for him to see the dense branches of the trees.
“Shit, I didn’t count on the branches blocking my landing!”
With a manic wave of his hand, he casted a spell collecting all the leaves to center just below him seconds before he hit the ground. The leaves grouped itself forming something like a bowl to catch him. But he didn’t hit the ground. His body landed instead, on the branches of the trees, cushioned by the leaves he called upon. He rolled down, branch to branch, the world spinning right before his eyes. Every muscle in his body was sore from the dull pain.
Was it a branch or a rock, he couldn’t tell as his vision soon faded to

‘Had I gone this way before?’ he wondered, unable to shake the doubt. There was nothing that stood out than the other in all the junctions he took.
‘Maybe if I stick to only one side, I’d eventually circle out’. With no other better ideas, he went with it and chosen to go right all the way.
In a fit of panic, he tripped over some rocks, losing grip on the torchlight in his hand until it bounced off the solid walls, shattering into pieces.
“Why did I do that!” he screamed, picking up the parts of his torchlight, desperately forcing the parts to fit into each other with his grubby hands trembling in the dark.
His brain cells connected. He took his phone out from his pocket for some light. With renewed hope, however dwindling it may be, he proceeded on to the right side. He would loop this for minutes and minutes, losing his grip on reality. Yet the dreamed exit was nowhere in sight.
‘This cloud tunnel from before’, he thought. ‘I have been here’. Another right turn. ‘No. Wait

The Dark Demon is malicious and artistic, dealing with darkness and illusions, the Ocean Spirit is cunning with curses, gaining strength from water and capable of equipping him with water spells that he had initially no knowledge of. When he tried to locate a wind element demon, the first place he could think of was Nord, known for its mountains and wind technology. The second guess would be Monqanut, similar in its mountains landscapes, and he would want to go there next if things turned out that there was no demon in Nord.
He took out a jar out of his bag. Contained inside it was the memento of the Ocean Spirit -- a primitive flesh-like doll made of bones and hair -- suspended in a yellowish liquid. He had brought some of his memento along, as considering the duration of the vacation he may have needed to perform his rituals in a timely manner as per the agreement with the spirits. Each had their own set of requirements. But sometimes it was also good for Joren as he could use the

With a slow turn of his head, he looked. Nothing was moving. He was the only person there. Then, he heard the heavy thumps again. But it didn't seem like it was coming from the current floor, but rather, he felt the vibrations from below.
He paused, looking down to his boots. He felt it again, the vibrations, more pronounced than before.
Brushing away the rubbles at his feet, he bent down closer to the floor to hear. The thumping was consistent like a pulse. Eyes wide and a silly grin, he hastily searched for the staircase down to where he could sate his curiosity.
He took a quick glance at his phone to see the time. 'I don't have to call my parents just yet', he thought to himself.
He tried every door but none would lead him downstairs. Some were entirely blocked by a collapsed floor. He tapped on the walls to see if there was a hidden entry, but nothing.
After a long search, he finally noticed a door at the staff area beyond the cafeteria counters. There was no light in

Footsteps scampered across the gravel of the cave. A group of armed men crammed through the fissures to get to the other side, coating the safety equipment they wore from head to toe in debris. Panting, exhausted and at their limits, they pushed through until they reached an open space, the light from their helmet shining the way and their hands firmly on their assault rifles.
All of them headed straight to the centre where they saw the object they were hunting for. Some of them, periodically checking their six. Bending down, with hands on their knees, they took a moment to catch their breath. It had been hours long and their journey was nothing short of a nightmare.
In the silence of the cave, one of them heard a crackling sound. "What was that?" he asked, aiming his gun to the unknown.
They scouted the area for threats and saw nothing. They were alone in the caves.
As soon as they turned around, a wail from one of their men startled them. Against all logic they had known
