Description

#DrawDeercember day 11: Dicrocerus.

Dicrocerus elegans lived about 10-5 million years ago in Miocene France. It is the earliest deer known to bear antlers. Even though they were small and primitive we suspect that these antlers were shed regularly as their fossilised remains have been found. Dicrocerus was not a direct ancestor of modern deer but it represents a fascinating stage of their early evolution. This sketch was based on the fossilised cranium on display at the Natural History Museum in London. We don't know much about its postcranial anatomy.

Solid. I like how you articulated the direction of the fur.
