After her final day of Kindred North drew to a close, Maddie was experiencing a wide bevy of emotions. She felt fairly good about her final exams, and that feeling was enough to make this day feel far better than the sour note from earlier. She had little idea how well she actually did, but she still enjoyed the satisfaction that came with this completion. As she left the building and headed straight for her car, she was practically galloping with glee. She was barely aware of her awkward movements on her way to her car, and most of the students leaving at that same time were too excited themselves to even notice how this one senior was moving about. Before she knew it, she was already in her car, humming a familiar cheerful tune to herself while bobbing her head up and down. On the short way back to her house, she would interject her humming with an occasional and less rhythmic “Yeah! YEAAAH!!!!”, the stark loudness of those cheers standing out from the otherwise quiet melody. After

Buoys & Grills was a rather popular seafood restaurant for a while. It did have to close over the winter months, presumably for renovation, though business was already gradually picking back up. Natasha and Snyder Park were already enjoying the new-and-improved restaurant during their first day of summer break. They had yet to even order the food, and they were already loving the new look and smell of this place. “I really gotta know,” asked Snyder to keep the conversation rolling as they sat down and waited. “Why exactly DID you show today? I’m glad you did, but I thought you already finished and graduated.” Natasha raised her eyes from the menu and back to her brother. “If I’m being honest, I didn’t really have anything going on today, so I figured that I would spend that time with you,” she responded, “especially since I knew that it was going to be pretty tough. If I’m being honest, I’m not sure why any seniors at this school attend. I just know that it’s been a thing for years

Madeleine Bintray was also among the few seniors still showing up for this final day. Her reason for attending today, however, was ironically one of the reasons why she almost chose to forgo it instead. The past month was more than a little stressful for her, and she was just relieved when she finally graduated on what she thought at the time was her final day of high school. She had considered just letting that be that while focusing on her summer break, especially since part of that stress was from getting ready for college. However, as she tried to enjoy her summer break before moving on to college, the sour note on which she ended her years at Kindred North High School continued sticking with her. On the day of her graduation, she was thoroughly enjoying that tidal wave of relief and jubilation even before the graduation ceremony began. "DRIIIIING" While this bell was already exciting when it indicated the end of regular school days, it was especially exciting this time. The students and faculty at Kindred North High School were especially excited for the last bell of the semester. As soon as it rang, almost everyone rushed in excitement to meet up with each other or just head back home after yet another long semester. The excitement in the air was palpable as more and more students filled the halls for the next few minutes and rushed to head back home. Even the parking lots and nearby streets were noticeably busier than usual, though this was largely because none of the students were staying for extracurricular clubs and sports. While many teachers and faculty members also planned to stick around for a bit longer, others decided to head back home at the same time as the students and take care of their end-of-semester business from home. As the sun was still on its way to rising in this normally quiet neighborhood, nary a sound could be heard. A brisk breeze blew past, gently rustling the leaves in an otherwise silent dawn. That was when a cheery, moderately loud alarm filled one bedroom for around a minute before Amélie Bintray slowly got up to shut it off. As the CEO of Novaim, a moderately sized company in the area, she often had a busy schedule. Granted, even with that, she didn’t often have to wake up as early as she did today. Today, she mainly had to wake up to balance her life as both a CEO and a mother. As she went to do so, she managed to outdo the volume of her alarm clock with a prolonged yawn. She had placed her alarm clock a good distance from her bed, which forced her to get up to shut it off. This was an effective way to keep her from going back to sleep for ‘just five more minutes’ until her morning coffee could give her enough energy to start the day for real. Paola Romero, a student who recently came from abroad around three years ago, was also excited for her final day at school today. She only had one final exam today, and it was in Medieval History. This was her favorite course, and she was already more than prepared to ace that exam. She still had to wake up early with her cousin Kal, who had been living here in Bergmont for most of his life. He also went to this high school, though he was still a junior and still had a year left of school. Kal still had exams today, and he was admittedly less confident than his older cousin. He and his cousin slept one room apart, so when his alarm woke him up at 6:45 in the morning, it woke Paola up as well. Granted, they were both looking forward to a summer break with no need to wake up at any given time. They were both used to waking up in the morning because of their school, but they were still looking forward to staying up late and waking up around noon. One reason for that is Kal’s brother

Meanwhile, at the Spark residence, two more excited students get up at the early time of 5:30 in the morning. Neither of them had anything in particular at that time for this particular morning. However, Natasha would wake up around this time normally throughout the year, and her younger brother Snyder would sometimes wake up with her. Even with the alarm set far later than usual, as she had no morning practice this time, her biological clock naturally kicked in. This also happened with how early she slept last night. As she tried to get up quietly, she somehow woke Snyder from the next room over. Naturally, though, their parents stayed deep asleep, not needing to wake up until 6:15 instead. In an effort to avoid waking his parents up, Snyder carefully snuck over to Natasha’s room, where he found her sitting up with only her phone screen illuminating the room. “Well well well, not surprised to see you awake so soon. Summer break is always an exciting time of year for one reason or another. While this year is no exception, it stands out among the others… as is the case every summer break. Every year has its defining memories that stick with people for years after, though some stand out more than others. This one, however, marks the summer that Madeleine Bintray graduates high school and truly starts new chapters in her life. For this reason, as memorable as previous moments may have been, this transition seems more important than just any old summer break. In fact, Maddie was so excited for this day that she had trouble falling asleep last night. This rarely happens to her, and the few occasions when it did before were all monumental in their own ways. Naturally, this meant that she struggled when her alarm clock rang to wake her up. After a few minutes, though, she was eventually able to wake up from her colorful dreams, rubbing her eyes as she slowly sat up. She murmured to herself as she slowly
