Jules Guermonprez,
under the guise Onirio here
(and on Discord as Jules Varensta#3723 )
Living with a pen in my hand as far back as I can remember.
Writes, speaks and thinks in both French and English.
Does lots of color work on Procreate in 10x23,5 cm because it's like the proportions of Cinemascope.
well so far it hasn't broken its back on the odyssey... ...cause none of the Hollywood shots at that story made it to the green light.
once upon a time there was the orson Welles attempt.
then in the late 2000's WB had one set in space, with George miller. and Brad Pitt.
and also a different one that hired fedor bondarchuk in 2014 and courted Mel Gibson in 2019. and was never heard of after the pandemic.
in the meantime lionsgate had a project in 2015 with Francis Lawrence starring high Jackman.
it was likely cancelled (along with their Julius caesar that briefly courted Joe wright) in the wake of Alex proyas' Gods of Egypt... ...well, happening.
what the 1954 version? Italian production with a distribution deal at paramount.
last year's The return with Ralph Fiennes?
indie European production.
the only exception so far is the 1997 version.
it was a miniseries made by hallmark,
but with also Zoetrope involved (so it was technically the closest to a Hollywood version)
Fast forward to one day later, on December 23 :
Christopher Nolan, 22 years after saying no to Troy at Warner,
is announced to direct a tentpole adaptation of the Odyssey at universal.
That might just be the new bar-setter mythology movies have been waiting for the past 15 years.
The cast is already packed and stacked,
filming is to proceed this semester if all goes well.
Locations will include England, Italy and Morocco*.
The summer 2026 theatrical release will include an imax run.
Be careful with your drinking rate while attending,
there’s talk it might be three hours long,
With no intermission.
*which means there’s a chance we’ll finally see the Trojan war staged in Ouarzazate.
Speaking of : Morocco is set to also host gal gadot’s cleopatra*, the other peplum offering currently in development at universal.
*well, assuming it makes it move soon while Denis villeneuve’s rival project is delayed by his Dune messiah commitments, of course.
I had no idea.
(Verifies)
Ah right, it’s not that big a deal.
It’s just that Tintin in the land of the Soviets
(The very first album,
The only one that was never redrawn,
Was never put on screen,
And didn’t even have a colored version until recently)
Entered public domain in the USA, due to the local condition of « 95 years after publication ».
But it does not cover the character in general*.
2053 is a more realistic bet, as it’ll be 70 years after Hergé’s death.
In the meantime, his widow Fanny Vlamynck and her husband Nick Rodwell are strict and protective as hell.
*a good comparison would be how Buck Rogers is still under copyright, but Armageddon 2419AD,
the short story in which he originated, no longer is.
And ditto for Mickey Mouse in general vs just Steamboat Willie.
