Against all
sense of reason, breathe…
Calm the agony;
push it down.

Endorphins
cannot win this fight;
gargantuan odds
make it hard.

If only
someone else would just
kill this vile demon—
or linger…

Maybe then
I could face the noise,
or else drown it out
for good.  Please…

Quivering,
I just seek some rest—
safety in your arms;
together.

Until then
anguish and love vie
within my poor heart
now xeric…

You alone
can help me reach Zen.

My Abcadab for the 2020 Amazing Alphabetic April hosted by ProjectDFC.  Drawing this time from personal emotions…

The Abcadab is an alphabetic form created by haijinik, who lines out the form here in this tutorial, that consists of a 3-5-5-3 syllable scheme for six quatrains followed by a 3-5 syllable count concluding couplet.  For the alphabetic structure, subsequent letters of the alphabet are the first letters in the first and last words in alternating fashion in subsequent lines, i.e., the first line begins with an “a” word, the second line ends with a “b” word, etc, all the way through to the couplet beginning with a “y” word and ending with a “z” word.  Rhyming is optional, but not a requirement.

There is something really cool about these alphabetic forms and you always make them flow so beautifully well, in spite of the restraints of the form, it really is such a fine balance between hope and despair
