My New Years resolution was to get more organised using things like deviant art to keep me focused on projects, that hasn't really happened yet.

Moving on, I have some pictures of a new project I am working on:

Climactic Epiphany (WIP) by OConnellFineGlass

I am trying to create the feeling of creative souls escaping monotony in an explosion of creative expression. The final will look different then the image in a few ways:

1. The tendrils coming from the left will come 1/2 to 2/3 across the image.
2. There will be a few more tendrils, narrower, with a greater variety in length.
3. The longest tendrils, being in the centre, will rotate around each other 270 - 180 deg
4. The background colour will only come up 1/3 of the way, spacing out as it goes up the back.  An oxidizing flame environment will fume the next 1/3rd of the back with the silver content of the glass.
5. The whole back of the piece will be painted black to give it some negative space.
6. Photoshop will be used to desat everything except the blue, The pallet will be, black, gray, white and electric blue.

I will be spending some time with Photoshop tomorrow, hopefully getting a rendering of the frame and components compete.

Fire Stones V1 WIP by OConnellFineGlass

So a few problems with this session:

1. Wide angle was an error in judgement
2. Boric acid /w methanol burns green in a beaker but orange when exposed to high winds
3. I set the water front on fire, need to do it where there is less plant waste.
4. . . nah that's really it

I want to shoot a tighter frame, so all I have in frame a vertical wall of rocks.  I then want the fuel to be burning evenly on all of the rock surface.  This will give the illusion of a silhouette in flame.  I will use pure methanol next time to avoid the yellow fire, no green fire is a draw back but the end result should look better.

I spent most of the day helping Laura clean the basement, I came back to find even more fav's I have to follow up on!  Thanks again for the DD support.  Later today I will be heading down to the lake with 4 gallons of fondue fuel and a box of Borax.  I will have burning stones by the end of it and hopefully the pics come out well.

While sifting through the mornings fav's I found a few pieces that interested me.  These caught my attention b/c they are making me like styles that I usually disregard.

Chaos III by Kaeltyk
I am not a huge fractal fan but the deconstruction of this piece is really great!

I have always considered fuse glass a bit of an entry level technique because of it's rather simple nature.  I always love seeing really clean, complex fusings.  These pieces work with the qualities of that material and the pieces almost describe the nature of the glass well.  The colour choice is bang on as well.

Two questions ask me the most are "Is your work stained glass?" and "Can you make me stained glass for my house."  My response is usually "SGFDFGHSD GASFSDFS NO STAINED GLASS!!!!!!!!!!!!"  Every now and then I see some great original (I know this is my third time using original as an adjective, but I think it describes what I am into) work.  I would love to see this piece in a freestanding, bare steel floating frame, with some back lighting.  The texture is a relief, most stained glass is done using locally available rolled or float glass.  The best pieces I have seen have been custom made glass panels.

This whole time I have been listening to 'Somebody That I Used to Know' - Gotye, covered by Walk off the Earth
www.youtube.com/watch?v=d9NF2e…

This song has been on my mind for a few days.  I rarely listen to covers because I feel they lack the emotion of the writer but this one keeps all the feeling and adds a new twist. . . all five band members play the same guitar . . . at the same time.  So everyone who wants to make music doesn't need a full sound studio with the best gear.
