Simba felt something was wrong. He opened his eyes and at first glance everything seemed normal. His mate and sons sleep peacefully next to him. Chaka cutely hugged Kiara. Wait. Kiara. Her mother was nowhere around. Simba had his worst fears about his half-sister. As quietly as he could, he got out of the lair and went to Pride Rock. It was already a habit to see the kingdom in all its splendor and look after it as other kings had once done. And then he saw her. Shani was slowly walking in an unknown direction. Her gait seemed frail, lifeless. Simba was about to follow her, but then the lioness turned around. He couldn't quite see her expression, but he could have sworn she was crying. The siblings stared at each other for a long time until Shani broke eye contact first. Without a word, she moved on and a moment later disappeared into the distance. The king silently watched as his sister disappeared. He wanted to move, but he couldn't. He knew exactly what had just happened, but he still couldn't believe it. He stared into the distance for a few more moments, and only then returned to his family. His greatest attention was drawn all the time by his eldest son cuddling little Kiara. A sad, barely visible smile appeared on Simba's face. He touched her cheek with his nose very tenderly.

"Don't worry, little one. We'll take care of you, I promise."

And then later Simba tells Nala what happened and they decide to adopt their niece. Biological mother of Kiara, Shani (daughter of Sarabi and Scar) abandoned her and ran away. Don't think Shani is a monster or a villain. She did this mainly due to her lack of maternal instincts and pain due to the absence of her mate, Mheetu. After Nala's brother left, Shani was devastated. He left her and did not take her with him. They both had different visions of their future and eventually ended up parting ways. Only later did the lioness discover that she was pregnant. It was a disaster for her. She didn't want cubs. And especially at this moment. Simba supported his sister and even suggested that Zazu go and call Mheetu back but Shani refused. The family helped the lioness as much as they could; Nala even prepared her for motherhood, as she herself was expecting a new cub and already had two sons. Unfortunately, none of the methods and advice helped the golden lioness. Soon after, Kiara was born and everyone was charmed and delighted with her. Everyone but not Shani. She felt no maternal feelings for the newborn. Deep down, she knew it was selfish and wrong, but she couldn't help it. She looked at her brother and sister-in-law and envied them the love they give not only to Kopa and Chaka but also to Kiara and other cubs in the pride. She was fed up with what everyone expected of her and in her mind she was already plotting an escape from it all. Simba guessed Shani's intentions. However, he believed that she would get over it and take care of her daughter as she should. Unfortunately, seeing his sister that fateful morning, he was convinced of the following. And like it or not, he has to accept it...
