16x7" Catalpa, oil and wax finish.  Two views of the same carving, mounted on old hand-hewn beam The same beam which contains the other characters).  This is longest piece of catalpa I have carved so far, it is also a larger scale and the first time carving more into the side grain than the end grain.  I felt it was more enjoyable working this way as I could make cleaner shapes and I think more interesting grain patterns were revealed.
