So in the recent season 6 premier, it is stated that equestria has never seen the birth of an alicorn. Lauren Faust stated that both Luna and Celeastia were born alicorns. (Yes Lauren doesnt work on the show anymore but she did create these characters.) I did some research in the "journal of the two sisters" and realized that because celeastia and luna were blank flanks before they were crowned and even for a short time afterwards they had to be born alicorns.
