How to expel creatures of Evil
This book from 1348, Descriptio daemonum et creaturarum malorum ac methodi a servis Dei adhibitae ut eos in regiones obscuras expellerent (Description of Demons and evil creatures and the methods used by God's servants to expel them to the dark regions), for centuries was considered one of the many demonology books of the medieval era. The Church had an ambiguous relationship with these books: they were part of the Church's list of prohibited books, but on the other hand, they were carefully studied in the privacy of the cloisters. But in the last century, the perspective of scholars on this book changed. In the Middle Ages, the concept of extra-dimensional creatures did not exist in any way, any dark manifestation was considered a demon. Did the author of this book believe that with these spells he could expel demons? Or did he know that these creatures were actually from other worlds and cosmic realms?
We believe he did know. In some illustrations, there are some horrible intelligent bipedal beings, not human, worshiping some blasphemous monsters. And some pages are written in a completely unknown language, unrelated to any ancient human civilization. Some scholars identified that language and those illustrations: they seem to be copies of the vile and corrupt Necronomicon!
