Day 13 - Dune

After yesterday's overtime I decided to take it easy with some chibis.

Dune was another word that I was initially pretty uninspired by. It did, however, make me think of an hour glass (piles of sand and all), so I played with that, and in the end I had a lot of fun with this one! I decided to use the hourglass to show how the passage of time has changed Sam, so we have her during her Senate days just before she defected, then at the beginning of the book after the five year gap of being on the run when she gets wrangled in by the E.C.E.. (This is in no way a metaphor for Sam "breaking free" of the Senate. If anything, her Senate days were the best days of her life.)

I promise not to draw anything glass tomorrow.

The circle on Senate Sam's cheek was supposed to be a little chibi blush mark but it looks like it's pressed against the glass like her hand and I am more than okay with that.

Also, fun fact that in the original (fantasy setting) version, the Senate was in the middle of a desert, making the sand in this all the more appropriate. For the current (modern) setting it had to move to be in a still-hidden-but-more-accessible location, as magic is no longer available to get to and fro.
