. I noticed that as I grow older my standards also get a bit higher. When I watch cartoons I often feel like they're just too simple/ predictable to me. Same thing about games. Most of them are just far too simple for me, I need something that allows me to truly challenge myself, that's why I rather focus on being creator than consumer. It just brings lots of more satisfaction to myself 

To develop your style you need to have a good foundations first. So focus on the fundamentals first and then your style will slowly build up on that.

Seems like you put too much value into details which are actually the least important part of the drawing. Work on your your fundamentals first . Even the simplest drawing with good foundation  can look much better than detailed artworks that lacks it.
