Here, Queer, Full of Millennial Furry Fear

the core cast of Fuzzbutts, my newest project! just a quick character reference for me so i can finally start drawing these shmucks consistently. please click to zoom on teeny furries~


lil blurbs on each character, moving from left to right:


 Penny: is a big personality in a teeny-tiny package. Loud, goofy, and just a little self-centered, Penny is an aspiring children's entertainer....or at least, she was. Penny was broke and making her way through clown college when she received news her dear doddering grandmother had kicked the bucket, leaving behind a sizable inheritance for Penny, her favorite grandkid. Unfortunately, the inheritance came with the stipulation that Penny must take over Grandma's shabby old boarding house, Zoo Haven, and restore the property to it's former glory. God damn it, there's always a catch!


Now Penny is the begrudging landlord of a boarding house full of many odd residents. Penny is unsure how to wield her authority as land-lemur and mostly just wants to be liked, which means frequently annoying the tenants of the boarding house, butting into their personal lives and dodging their requests for property repairs. 


Penny has an extensive background in circus work, including acrobatics and stunt work. Penn can tell a joke, make you a balloon animal, and juggle with their feet, all simultaneously. And she's going to be very huffy if you're not impressed. Penny is nonbinary and uses "whatever pronouns are funniest at the moment". She's a BIG flirt, though she panics if anybody actually flirts back. Hailing from a truly massive family (a lemur troop with more than a hundred members), Penny spent much of her life lost in a sea of black and white, and now aspires (almost desperately) to stand out as a vivid blot of color.


 Bruce is so dinky he looks like a child left unattended in a Mcdonald's play area. He is a grumpy tenant in Penny's boarding house (mostly cuz the rent is cheap), and shares an apartment there with his roommate, Sunny.


note: I decided to change Bruce from gay to bi. Idk, I feel like I covered a loooot of gay panic/gay angst territory with Pandoraverse!Bruce, and not that that wasn't (very) fun, but I feel like I'd be retreading a lot of ground if I do it again in Fuzzbutts. Wallaby Bruce just gives me tiny bi vibes, he is a tiny grumpy bi guy....not that he'd ever actually express attraction to anyone, of course. I apologize if you were attached to gay Bruce, know that Fuzzbutts!Bruce doesn't erase the existence of (canonically gay) Pandoraverse!Bruce. 



  Sunny: A newish tenant that was assigned to Bruce through Penny's flawless roommate-matching system (read: pairing residents at random). Sunny is bright, cheerful, and hyper-friendly, all traits that greatly annoy Bruce.


Sunny is genderfluid. This is something he's only discovered fairly recently, after he'd begun dating Skye. Although initially anxious to tell her, he was delighted and grateful to find that Skye was 100% supportive, and still as willing to fawn all over him (now using Sunny's pronouns of choice). Sunny's not normally easy to fluster, but boy howdy does Skye manage, especially when she starts up with "my girlfriend is the prettiest girlfriend in the world and i'll suplex anyone who thinks they can hold a candle to her" bragging.


 Skye does not live in the boarding house herself, she instead lives in the heart of Critter City to be close to her social media job. She visits her dumb doggie soulmate Sunny on weekends. Skye is genderqueer herself, but still figuring things out. For now, she knows she likes to dress in ways that make her feel beautiful- but also sometimes, it's lovely to feel handsome and dapper!


 Lune is a leucistic deer, hence the white coat. His former cult, Rangale, thought it meant he'd been blessed by their deer god, and hyped the shit out of Lune's eventual time to take over leadership from his father. Even now, having escaped Rangale, Lune remains a bit vain over his appearance, and takes very good care of himself. Having grown up in a restrictive fundamentalist deer cult, Lune is deeply repressed and not sure at all about what his sexual orientation is. He can concede that he probably isn't (entirely) straight, but gets skittish about using actual labels. Take your time, Lune.


 Victoria is a piebald deer, which is a coat mutation that her former herd found blotchy and unsightly. Victoria was often told that no buck would want such a doe as the mother of his children, to which Victoria thought....cool. Awesome. Unlike Lune, Tori has known she was a big ol honkin' lesbian since basically forever. Unfortunately, queer deer are frowned upon in Rangale, and even subject to excommunication, so Victoria stayed silent and timidly admired does from afar. Now that she and her brother are free, however, Victoria is rather shy about talking to women and her "freeze" prey instinct leads her to stammer when nervous. She is still somewhat insecure about her spotty coat, no matter how Lune (extremely awkwardly) assures her she's beautiful the way she is.


As Lune and Victoria have been formally excommunicated from their home, they are the only family they have left in the world, and thus extremely close. Deer are skittish creatures- Victoria is ashamed that her reflex when frightened is to dart behind Lune- and while Lune may also be frightened, he’ll still lower his antlers and stand his ground to keep his sister safe. Victoria is kind of a bleeding heart and throws herself into many different causes to help people, although Lune will grumble about it he’ll still always help her in her endeavors, even if it means working his hands to the bone crocheting holiday hats for the elderly (hers are so creative and lovely, his are so lumpy it’s embarrassing-Tori praises them anyway)


Victoria can be a bratty lil sister, but for the most part she’s quite affectionate and loving with her brother, Lune pretends not to like her hugs and hand squeezes and snarky teasing but he misses her a LOT whenever she needs to go away, sulky boi just wants his sister and worries if she’s eating enough. Victoria is basically the only person Lune actually respects, lol


Lune: I’m disillusioned with Rangale and with the world. >:C Everyone is self-serving and terrible. *points to all residents of the boarding house* WHORES, all of you!

Lune, pointing to Victoria: Except Tori. She’s perfect. Incredible. Amazing. Talented. Stunning. Literally the only good thing to come out of our childhood home, and that includes me-


Victoria: Lune, do you really need to do this EVERY brunch

 Cupcake is god. Damn. Massive. She seems to have a permanent slouch, because 1.) she is not confident, and 2.) if she stands to her full height she's like 10 feet tall, and she's found that makes little animals pretty nervous. Having been raised by sugar gliders, Cupcake has no idea how to dress for her size/body type and simply wears whatever clothes fit. Cupcake often looks like she's trying to go unnoticed, which is difficult when you're one of the largest terrestrial carnivores on the planet. Her best (only?) friend is Penny, who is dumb enough to pay little mind to Cupcake's massive strength and claws. Penny can often be found riding on Cupcake's shoulder, either encouraging her friend to be more assertive, or trying to pick fights with anybody that slights Cuppers ("Um, excuse me?? My friend here asked for no pickles!!")


She and Penny met in clown college (having been raised by circus performers herself, Cups was there to study the elusive concept of comedy) and bonded quickly over being misfits. When Penny inherited the boarding house, she decided to use a chunk of her newfound inheritance money to bring Cupcake on as a personal assistant. Cupcake is the competent one of the pair and taking quite well to managing a house and its residents. She's especially enjoying learning how to cook and bake for everyone (the compliments she gets are one of the few things that can fluster her), and has begun keeping bees for honey on Bruce's rooftop garden.

 Priscilla is trans, everybody stans. She's also one of the tiniest members in the cast. I've explored her a lot here:   and here: 

 Bellon uses no sexuality label besides queer. They simply like who they like, and they know it when they see it. (In case anybody's confused on Bellon's flags, they mean nonbinary and intersex, respectively).

 Silver is so fucking massive compared to his baby brother holy cow. He's bi, but currently unaware of the fact. Silver is a hot-blooded 100% heterosexual kangaroo buck that only dates pretty ladies and does not at all have increasingly confused feelings about his best friend, Logan. Silver does not live at the boarding house (as a world-class kickboxer he's often touring, partying, and staying in high-end hotels), but visits as often as possible to crash with Logan and antagonize his bitty baby brother Brucie.

 Logan is fucknormous, so tall he almost threw off the composition of the character lineup. His stripey fur pattern come from his grandfather, who was a Tasmanian tiger. A fun fact about Logan is that he always unthinkingly stoops down to talk to Bruce, which makes Bruce so fucking mad you have no idea
