Description
This creature lived during the Middle Jurassic where one day Europe will be.
The Procellapterus doylei (“Doyle’s hurricane wings”) was a giant rhamphorhynchid that reached up to 7m of wingspan, dwarfing even the large and contemporary Dearc.
These pterosaurs were long distance flyers that were able to soar for days over the ocean while snatching fishes and cephalopods with their long and robust toothed jaws.
The regular roosting areas for these creatures were oceanic islands, were they were safe from most of terrestrial threats since their short legs and long wings made them not the best on crawling in the ground.
These reptiles lacked parental care, leaving their eggs in the same isolated areas they are used to roost, with the juveniles sticking to shores near the same islands until they are developed enough to adopt the oceanic lifestyle.
Reminds of the undescribed Jurassic giant.
