It took me a little longer than I wanted to finish this page, thanks to tax season. But here it is!

So...the exposition's over and now the plot comes barging in.

Some more hyenas worth noting:

The brown one sitting next to Banagi is my take on Baasho, another deleted character from the movie. My headcanon for Baasho is that he's very wise but withdrawn, sort of a spacey free spirit type, and he always has a quaint piece of advice that helps to keep Banagi grounded and in good spirits. Baasho's sweet nature makes him an easy target for bullies though, which is another reason why Banagi tries to schmooze Shenzi. He's trying to secure a better life for his only friend as well as for himself.

The hyena cub is my take on Asante, an arguably canon character from a TLK spinoff book about Kopa. The hyena protecting her is my take on Fisi, also from a TLK book about Kopa. My headcanon is that Fisi is either Asante's uncle or a friend to one of her parents, who both died in the battle for Pride Rock. He's always scheming, but he's cooled down recently since the clan is still trying to find its feet after losing the Pride Lands. I like to think he's digging that hole because he's paranoid and tends to bury useful objects for safekeeping.
