As a descendent of the Legendary Red Army Captain Viktor Reznov, Aleksei enlisted into the Russian Army in 1996 and slowly worked his way up through the ranks of the military. Openly, he has stated that he was 'continuing on the family legacy', but secretly, he wishes to restore honour to Reznov's name and the legacy of his Great-Uncle through his own actions. Because of this, Aleksei is a recognised hero and battle-hardened veteran of the Second Chechen War - serving in both the actual invasion in 2000 (which lead to him being awarded the Hero of the Russian Federation) and later serving three tours during the Counter-Insurgency period in 2002, 2004 and 2005. It was during this period that the GRU started to take an interest in Aleksei.
After Aleksei's third tour, he would be headhunted by GRU for selection in early 2006, to which he would pass and become a GRU Agent in 2008. At first, Aleksei was surprised that he was selected for GRU, but that would turn to worry and concern for his own safety when a Major Artem Boyarov from the FSB passed him some declassified documents on Reznov's fate after the Battle of Berlin, Deployment with Unit 45 and the Vorkuta Uprising in 1963. Since reading these documents, Aleksei has since declined to work in a unit and instead operates as an Operations Officer for covert missions or missions where he has worked in tandem with either local militias or with foreign intelligence agencies/special forces. It's due to this very reason that Aleksei carries an AK-101 instead of the standard AK-74M.
Latest intel indicates that Aleksei has recently been transferred to the Second Directorate of the GRU - which covers intel gathering and covert missions in the Western Hemisphere.

At the moment, I do have something in mind for our GRU Agent here, but this will put onto the backburner for the time being until I get more pressing projects completed.
For Aleksei's bio, I did decide to make him a relative of everybody's favourite Red Army Captain from COD: World at War and Black Ops from the get go. However, originally I did want to have him named Artyom Reznov, but I relented on this and after buzzing around a few names, what you see is the final choice.
In case anyone is wondering Aleksei's nickname is 'Alyosha' - especially if you are not Russian and/or if you are a fan of Metro Exodus - this is due to the fact that Alyosha is a diminutive, or shortened, version of his birth name, which in Russia is used as a nickname.

As for Aleksei's usage of the AK-101, I gave him this due to the fact that it is the only Kalashnikov in the world that is purpose-built for the 5.56x45mm NATO cartridge, and that these rounds are logistically more easier to acquire than the Soviet 5.45x39mm cartridge - especially when operating on foreign soil. (It is this reason why the AK-101 and it's cousin, the AK-102 Carbine, is my absolute favourite AK in existence)
