[Name] walked aimlessly around the lands that used to be hers. Her capital was abandoned, people not wanting to stay for one reason or another. She sat on the steps of her capital building and closed her eyes. She could almost hear and see the hustle and bustle that used to make up the city of [capital name].
She had been trying for a few weeks now to find the loophole that could be the key to getting her country back. She had talked to former members of her special forces and they knew nothing. She had searched the capital building for clues but all important documents had either been burned or taken by the Germans. She posed as a simple traveler and went to various towns and asked the people how they were and many replied that they were getting by but did not want to be part of Germany. They spoke of relatives who moved more into the German territory in hopes of finding work but found it hard because they were looked down upon.
Opening her eyes she heaved a sigh and stood up. She figured if she left now she would make it back to train more. Lately she had been pushing herself to train more and more- running almost the same amount as Germany did on a daily basses. When she arrived home she changed out of her civilian clothes and into clothes appropriate to workout in- shorts and a t-shirt.
"Are you going out for a run bella?" Italy asked as she bent down to tie her shoes.
She tilted her head back to give the Italian a rare smile- she might be bitter but Italy made her happy whenever he was around. "Yes, do you want to come with me?"
"No thanks!" He quickly replied, taking a step back. "Germany already made we run today, he's so mean!"
"Alright," She replied, standing up. "Stay out of trouble, okay?"
Just then footsteps were heard from the stairs and Germany appeared also dressed in workout clothes. The two stared at each other for a moment before he asked: "Are you going for a run?"
"Yes," She replied coolly.
"Would you like some company?" He asked hesitantly.
She kept an emotionless mask, but inside she was reeling. Why did he all of the sudden want to spend time with her? "I guess…"
Italy watched the two walk out of the house worriedly. He knew the two were not on the best of terms- he had watched fall of [country name] and his opinion was this: he didn't think it was right for Germany- the country- to go in and take [country name] during a time of peace. He found it pointless, but was afraid to voice this to his best friend Germany.
The two ran at an even pace in silence, staring at the path in front of them. It seemed like the only time the two didn't argue about senseless things were when they were fueled with the desire to run. They ran for miles down the running path until they stopped to drink water.
"I found out why I don't feel what you feel," Germany spoke suddenly.
She glanced at him, not sure if she should trust him or not. She then reminded herself that this was Germany, Ludwig, and he didn't lie. He wouldn't give her false hope like that. "Why?"
"You have money and a branch of your military in a different country," He replied. "I was doing some digging around some files that were deemed as unnecessary and found this information though it does not say where. Your boss left you a note saying that they were waiting for your commands if you ever found out about the branch. Luckily my boss did not look through the box."
She was shocked. How did she not know about this? Sure she did not deal with the finances of her country but she was active in her military and was often a General during wartime. She found herself whispering: "How did I not know about this?"
Germany dug in his pocket before handing her a note. "The note explains that the branch was only activated after the takeover and was kept from you simply because your boss did not want you involved in this branch. The money is to keep the branch running and to supply them with weapons."
She read the note and found that Germany was correct. She folded the note and placed it in her pocket. "Why are you telling me this? You could have just gone and found the branch and took them out."
Germany sighed, running a hand through his hair. "It wouldn't be right. I know you hate me and I have told you that I never wanted this to happen. It was my boss' will not mine." He looked up at her with an expression she couldn't read- was it guilt? Sadness? Remorse? All of the above? "If you want to become a country again and gain your independence then I will not stop you, though my military and boss will and I will have no choice, but to side with them. I need to protect my people just like you need to protect yours. As a friend I will help you find where your money and military branch are but as a country I am not your ally."
He was willing to let her go just like that? She felt a wave of gratitude and happiness engulf her as she stared up at the man in front of her. "Germany…thank you so much." And for the first time in a year and a half she reached out her arms hugged him around his waist with tears in her eyes. "Thank you…"
He tensed up before relaxing a bit, patting her head gently. Though she couldn't see it he was smiling because he finally did something to make her happy though it would probably come back to bite him later. "Ja [Name]…you're welcome."
