Deep breathing helps when The fractured silence destroys me with every passing day Uttering prayers to a cause that was never truly there. And I remember eternity, seemingly false in its grasp To realize it was only a few months ago. Anxious rasps plague my respiration With the recollections of those fractured glances Did you know who I was? Or rather Did I know who you were? The thing that I mull over every day Is how fast the world changed And the pruning of the branches was a needed thing But who was to say I enjoyed it? Skipping beats as you all skipped in time An arrhythmia of asinine actuation Misunderstanding what the heart really wanted Meant that we were destined to leave each other The mending was incomplete. It’s a wonderful feeling to have a clear mind Even if I won’t see you for a while Out of choice or circumstance. Perhaps one day I’ll hold my breath in anticipation Of when I can smile in your presence again.

“Hey, Lance, you alright?” I look at my friend as we walk home from school. It’s a great day to relax, and I can’t wait to go home so we can watch the newest episode of the show we’re addicted to. “Y…yeah, Ian, it’s just…” Lance’s voice trails off into the winter air. “Dang dude, it’s freezing! You didn’t bring a jacket? ” “Not like it matters…” I hear him muttering. “Well, who cares? As long as you don’t die or anything, I’m good!” Lance’s face turns into a scowl. “Uh… forget I said anything.” The rest of the walk home’s silent as we take a few minutes to buy some snacks at the convenience store. Well, “we” meaning me; it seems like Lance isn’t in the mood for some mouthwatering poutine chips. I reach into my pocket to grab my wallet, and the clerk stops me. “Um… actually, just take it.
