Donovan seems to have been around for a very long time. During his younger years he was very energetic and often accompanied heroes on their quests. But he was extremely powerful compared to any mortal and his role in history was becoming too big. So the High gods banned him from interfering directly with history. After that Donovan lived quietly, usually traveling alone through dark woods.
