Who remembers the live action Spider-Man TV show from the 1970's?? Besides me that is. I could not wait as a kid for this to be on! When he first climbed a wall, I was over the moon! Being a purist, even back then as a little kid and having an encyclopedia-like knowledge of the Spider-Man myth, I was perplexed as to why there was no Uncle Ben, villains like the Green Goblin and most of all, why were the web-shooter(s) on the outside of the costume??? He barely even swung anywhere! I understand now, obviously, that it was budget and safety concerns but try explaining that to a third grader.
I had a sketch for this on my iPad for some time and I knew I would get around to it sooner or later. Then my son, Joe, gave me The Art of the Spider-Verse book for my birthday recently. I felt inspired to push myself out of my recent comfort zone in regard to my coloring and try new things. What better subject matter than a Spider-Man picture! Right!?? So, I went back and started to finish it up. In the end, I changed more textures than coloring but changing my textures affected the layers I had to keep tinkering with adjustments. More than I cared for but that's what you do until something clicks. In the end I was happy enough.
Yeah, I remembered that. Good times. 😁
I remembered that my Dad use to have that on VHS tape (not the actual tape of Spider-Man, but like he recorded on TV), and it came with the TV movie and Spider-Man Strikes Back, and of course The Incredible Hulk Returns with Bill Bixby (which it lasted for a little longer before the tape runs out, because my Dad never stop the commercials on the tape).
When I first saw it, the TV movie amazes me when I was like a toddler. I was probably like 3 or 4 years old. I don't really much know of Spider-Man back then.
It was like the first-time seeing Spider-Man in live action, because I use to watch the animated series of Spider-Man (1994) on FOXKids, and sometimes I get luckily with Saturday morning cartoons like the old 60's Spider-Man cartoon, including the 80's cartoon of Spider-Man and his Amazing Friends.
I've heard that Stan Lee never did like the show because it was "too juvenile", and that the Spider-Man character was being treated as a "Cardboard character".
The reason why there's no super villains from the comics is because they keep the show rooted in reality and keep budget costs controllable, they decided to have Spider-Man take on "real-life" criminals instead of the super villains from the comics.
Just now, that I heard on IMDB that Nicholas Hammond was going to appear in a cameo (as a cab driver) in Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021) but the scene was never shot after the film fell behind schedule and the script had to be pruned to help it get back on track.
I wish that Marvel would just reconsider and have the old TV series digitally remastered and release it on DVD and Blu-ray for all generations of Spider-Man fans to experience and witness it. 😏
OH YEAH, I forgot. I wish they would have him in the Into The Spider-Verse movies, too! 😁
