I'd never seen a Bittern before.  The closest was when I saw some footprints on a frozen pond in Norfolk, England.  That's why I was stunned when one walked within 6 feet of me in Florida.I was there with some friends to do some wildlife photography.  It was a changeable morning when we entered the park.  The operators had closed the roads so we had to walk.  That makes progress slower, but slow progress allows you to see more.  In a couple of hours we had barely covered the ground we would drive in 3 minutes.I was following a Tricolour Heron that was fishing in a large pool.  The flighty bird moved off to a new location behind a large ban...

Ssshhh! Goshawk.We'd entered the hide in the depths of the woods some 90 minutes earlier, our path illuminated only by our meager headlamps, the air in front misted by our collective breaths.  The snoots of the hide were prepped with lenses, cameras were mounted, and attached.  Bait was laid out on the table that looks like a forest floor, with snow contrasting with the depths of surrounding pines.  We struggled to find the table and focus, be tried all the same, knowing that we could not move our lenses too much once our prey arrived.A year before I sat in this very Norwegian hide from pre-dawn until post-dusk with just the rattle of squi...

It's been a long time since I posted anything.  Time flies when you work too much and don't take enough time for yourself.  You can just get caught up so much in things.It's been a year since I last posted a photo, and 2 years since I last posted a journal entry.  I've been to Norway a bunch of times photographing Golden Eagles and White-Tailed Sea Eagles, as well as a bunch of other things.  I've done a little landscape photography in Ireland.  And I've worked: my day job and writing IT tech books, blogging, speaking, podcasting, and all that jazz.  To be honest, I've never done so little photography.2013 is shaping up differently.  Jan 1...
