A few days ago the morning sun hit my hair in a way I really wanted to capture artistically so I took one of those awkward mirror selfies for reference & this is the result. I’m not really a morning person so please excuse my dead facial expression. // (‘-’*)
Recently I've been falling in love with the color all over again. I remember I fell out of love with it as a child because classmates back then would joke about yellow being the color of pee. It was deemed an uncool color just like pink (which people called girly) and so I assimilated and sought out colors that were deemed cool and "masculine" in society. But I can't get over the hues of a golden hour. Yellow makes me think of sunsets, rays of sunlight beaming and glazing the streets with a golden shine. The yellows, orange, reds and pinks of a sunset or sunrise... they make me think about warmth. I think of the adorable pudding dog Purin from Sanrio. I think about my favorite desserts, egg tarts and creme brûlée... Comfort foods... warm garlic bread... baked macaroni and cheese... soothing tea... I think of the mangoes from my family's homeland. This color may not resonate with everyone, but it resonates with me.
Someday hopefully we'll do away with gendering colors. I still like colors like blue and black, but it's out of loving the colors as they are rather than liking them because they are accepted by others as cool. Someday hopefully any colors stereotyped as girly will not be looked down upon just because they are deemed as feminine. There's nothing wrong with being feminine. And there is nothing wrong with liking a color that looks like pee.
