In his time, when a mortal (whether from the furry world or the human world) died, the god Anubis was in charge of guiding their souls through the afterlife until they reached a magical scale that Osiris created to judge their souls by comparing the weight of their hearts with that of a feather. If the mortal was considered good he would be willing to enter the Aaru, but if he was considered bad Ammit would devour his essence ending him forever, something she enjoyed as it increased her power.
