Description
I've decided to do a series involving the Pellucidar series done by Edgar Rice Burroughs that goes through a kind of revision of the wildlife native to it. In this version, Pellucidar is actually an alien planet rather than a part of a hollowed earth, which has been disproven by science. I came to the conclusion of doing this project simply because I couldn't help but feel like re-exploring the amazing world that the author created, albeit in a manner that is pretty much more up to date when it comes with the fauna. By revising the Pellucidar fauna, this would mean including and revising animals from the fictional region of Pal-ul-don and animals from Edward Bulwer-Lytton’s The Coming Race (1871), merging them with Pellcidar, just to inform you. JATO (INOSTRANCEVIA PELLUCIDARI)
TIME PERIOD: PERMIAN (259-252 MYA)
AVERAGE SIZE: 3.6 METERS LONG (12 FEET)
AVERAGE HEIGHT: 1.3 METER TALL (4.5 FEET)
DIET: CARNOVOROUS
HABITAT: TERRORSPINE MOUNTAINS, LUCENVIA, LIDI PLAINS, LAND OF AWFL SHADOW
The Jato (Inostrancevia pellucidari) is the evolutionary descendant of the same genus of gorgonopsid that once inhabited the earth during the Late Permain prior to the Great Dying. A carnivorous animal evolved for ambushing prey, the Jato is bulky in appearance, lurking within the grasslands, jungles, and mountainous regions of Pellucidar as it stalks on its prey. Although found within the Lidi Plains, the Land of Awful Shadow, and the Terrorspine Mountains, its true home lies within the jungle-infested region of Lucenvia, situated between two of the previously mentioned land masses while bordering south of the small island of Tandar. Despite its seemingly reptilian appearance, with the exception of its mammal-like nose that has a keen sense of smell, the Jato is more related to mammals, belonging to an ancient group called the Synapsids, a collection of animals that preceded the dinosaurs. Among the mighty warrior tribes of Lucenvia, the Jato is a feared and respected beast that is sometimes treated as an object of worship. It is said that by slaying one and drinking its blood would grant immense strength, though such a claim holds evidence thus far.
