My December project is a steampunk goldfish inside the belly of a steampunk cat.  The goldfish part is finished and resting comfortably in my DA gallery.
Problems were encountered with the cat when the glass belly couldn't take the heat and pressure of baking with polymer clay.  That problem has been solved, but with all my other commitments, this December project is not getting finished until the first or second week of January.
Don't dispair.  This project, titled "Bad Steampunk Kitty", is gonna be mega awesome!
Progress on this piece will be updated daily on my blog starting January 1st at  fauxhead.blogspot.com/

BugZoo

5 min read

I just started my own group, BugZoo, a place where amazing and beautiful insects are on display.  That's what I'm hoping for anyway.  Right now, I just have a few insects, but hope for many, many more.  I wanted to call the group BugJar, but that was taken.  And it was surprising that BugZoo was available.

I knew I wanted to start a new group, but with all my interests, there was some debate as to which interest to pursue.  There are so many groups about digital art and photography; pursuits that I am only just competent.  I make out pretty well with polymer clay, but there are many clay and craft groups to cover that.

I settled on a group about bugs.  Imagine that!  Macro photography takes us to another world where things look so much different, especially when bugs are as big as we are.  And beetles, along with poison frogs, just amaze me with their intricate patterns and unearthly colors.  So the colors and intricacies of insects and my love for beetles were the catalysts for wanting to start this group.
I hope you will join me to see some amazing insects at :iconbugzoo:

While browsing through my gallery you may notice that I do a little bit of everything.  There are paper sculptures, photography and polymer clay pieces, just to name of few.  I even added some vector art a few months ago.  I would love to find my niche, but I just can't seem to settle on one thing.

So I tried something out in November that seemed to work pretty well.  While working on one big project, I continued to post other things.  My big project was my White Lion Mask.  I took my time and made sure each step was thoroughly thought out and executed.  No rush.  And each week there were other things for me to post on DA.  While work continued on my Lion Mask, I was able to post a Superman vector and a few photographs.

Wait till you see what I have planned for December!  Here's a hint:  It purrs and swims and uses steam to operate.

Try, Try Again

5 min read

As the saying goes:  "If at first you don't succeed, try, try again."  It has also been said:  "If at first you don't succeed, keep on suckin' till you do succeed."
I quit on two art projects in my life and I like to think I don't quit on my art.  But, last year, I quit on a steampunk daddy longlegs.  I also semi-quit on a lion mask.  I have actually made a few lion mask pendants, but I was never completely happy with any of them.
So now, I am making my very best attempt to do a smokin' Lion Tribal Mask.  This one will be many times bigger than the pendant masks; not big enough to wear, but big enough to display or decorate.  It will be made out of polymer clay with real leather for the mane.  The polymer clay will be made to look like ivory and the leather is white.  So, a White Lion Tribal Mask is in the works.  You can follow the day to day progress of this lion mask on my blog.  fauxhead.blogspot.com

Frankenstorm

5 min read

Hurricane Sandy, described by forecasters as one of the largest hurricanes to ever hit the United States, is heading straight for us.  We are starting to feel the effects of this massive storm with heavy rain, flooding and wind gusts over 40 mph.  And the eye of the storm is still 200 miles away!  We are expecting the height of the storm to arrive overnight tonight.  At that time, winds will sustain at 75 mph and the water will pile up 5-10 inches.

This storm is being called "Frankenstorm" because the hurricane is combining with a large cold front coming from the north-west.  Sandy is also a monster in terms of sheer size; tropical force winds extend 520 miles out from the center of the storm.
