You silently made your way out of you and Luffy’s shared room and out onto the deck of the going merry, being greeted with a soft sea breeze to the face. You looked out into the distance, only seeing the vast ocean before you, despite it being dark outside.
You were out here because you were currently unable to sleep due to nightmares. You had a recent run in with a group of pirates in the last town you stopped at, and their captain would have killed you if it wasn’t for your straw hat captain and boyfriend. You knew being a pirate wasn’t easy, but you did enjoy it a lot of the time.
You sighed softly as you climbed up to where Zoro was currently keeping watch, who looked over at you as you got closer. He seemed a bit confused as to what you were doing up at this hour, since it wasn’t your night for watch.
“Couldn’t sleep?” You shook your head in response.
“Not really. I can take over from here if you want, I don’t think I’ll be going back to sleep anytime soon.”
“Are you sure?” You nodded
“I don’t mind.”
“If you say so.” The swordsman shrugged and stood up and made his back down to the deck, you taking his place. You sighed softly and leaned back, staring ahead at the vast ocean ahead of you. You knew it was going to be a long night, but you weren’t going back to sleep anyways.
Zoro had glanced back at you before making his way to bed to get some sleep before the sun came back up. As he crawled into bed, he looked over to find Luffy on the floor. He raised a curious brow, but shook his head and lies down in bed.
“…I’m not even going to ask.” He mumbled, closing his eyes.
“Zoro? Where’s Y/n? They weren’t here and I was looking for them in my sleep I guess and I fell.” Which was true. Since you two usually sleep in the same space, you two sleep pretty close together, and when you got up, he got a little cold and he was looking for you in his sleep before he fell down onto the ground, waking him up in the process.
“Oh, they took over for me, saying they couldn’t sleep.” With that said, he turned over onto his side, his back now facing Luffy.
“Oh. I hope they’re okay.” Now he sounded a little worried. He made his way outside, looking up and squinting a bit to see that you were currently up on watch, a blanket wrapped around your shoulders. Luffy sighed a bit in relief that you were at least okay, before making his way up to you.
“Y/n?” You glanced over at Luffy as he now sat beside you, scooting over a little to give him some room.
“Yeah? What’s up?”
“What’s wrong? I heard you couldn’t sleep.”
“Oh, yeah, about that..” you rubbed the back of your head.
“Come on, you can tell me!” He scoots closer to you, as if to ask you to tell him what’s been bothering you.
“It was about our recent run in with the other group of pirates.” You pulled the blanket around your shoulders closer to your body, “how I almost died… but in the dream I actually did die..” you felt small tears in your eyes as you remembered being held by the enemy captain, his grip tight around your body and his touch cold like ice. “I can still feel the cold metal of the blade against my neck..” You felt your tears being wiped away as they rolled down your cheeks.
“Y/n… I would never let anyone hurt you, you know that right?” Luffy pulled you into a hug, which you immediately returned.
“I know… thank you, Luffy.”
“And if anyone dares hurt you, I want you to tell me, okay? Because anyone that hurts you will have to answer to me!” He hugged you a bit tighter, but not enough to hurt you or make you uncomfortable. You smiled softly and nodded, now becoming more comfortable in his embrace.
“Okay, I will.” You mumbled as you closed your eyes.
“Please, get some sleep, Y/n. You’ll be okay.” Those were the last words you heard before falling asleep in his arms.
The next morning, you find yourself in the same position as the night before, wrapped up in Luffy’s arms, but his head was resting on top of yours, which you knew couldn’t be comfortable, which… wait a minute…
“Luffy, we both fell asleep!” You nudged him awake, making him look around.
“What?!” Luffy sat upright, looking around before his gaze landed back on you. “I guess we did, huh.”
“What do you mean you guess? We definitely fell asleep!” You looked down and around the ship. “It’s a good thing nothing bad happened.”
“Yeah… oh well! Let’s get back down and see if food is ready!” Of course his first thought after waking up would be about food. You laughed a bit and nodded, following him down to the deck, reminding yourself to apologize to Sanji later for Luffy being up earlier than usual.
