Story Recap - Yishu

Born to Chinese immigrant parents, Yishu was expected to be top of her class. And she would be, but there was 1 area she rebelled in. Instead of being president of the math club, Yishu snuck out and spent all her time in the art room. Her parents may be financial and mathematical masters, but she was not them. A creative element drove her to paint and get tattoos to honor her ancestry.

Naturally, Yishu's mother was very disappointed in her, while her father encouraged her creativity. This disagreement eventually lead to them separating after their daughter moved out. Yishu was sad but continued her pursuit of painting sales. Taking a job as a barista, she would serve coffee during the day and paint in the evening.

Tight on cash, Yishu's car was a real hunk of junk that inevitably broke down on the way to work. This seemingly bad day turned good, as Yishu met her future roommate, Ember. Despite being polar opposites, they got along great and enjoyed each other's company. The lax lifestyle of Ember rubbed off on Yishu, causing her to slack on her yoga routine and diet.

After not seeing or speaking to her mother for a few years, Wendy would find Yishu in a disgraceful state (in her eyes). She criticized her hair, fashion, weight and finances to no end. Her biggest form of critique, however, would be in Yishu's boyfriend, Vinny. His encouragement of her creative dreams and relaxed lifestyle pushed Wendy over the edge, leading to a scary heart attack.

In the hospital, Wendy would recover with Yishu at her side every day. 2 decades of strained relation would finally mend, as the lonely mother would apologize for treating her daughter so harshly. She even apologized to her husband, who welcomed her back with open arms and a smiling face. Yishu happily accepted this and has been helping her mom with anything she needs. Though Wendy is still not fully accepting of her boyfriend, maybe she'll get there someday, or maybe she won't have to. Vinny & Yishu have had a major argument that's put the relationship on hold. Possibly over. Will they get back together?
