Description
Easysinger's task here is making "travel-cakes", or pemmican -- a ground-up blend of suet, dried meat, and berries. It's kind of the primitive version of high-energy bars. You can find some pemmican recipes <a href=www.wildernesscollege.com/pemm…>by clicking here, if you're REALLY curious. (I have to admit, I'd like to try making it.)
This was the page I did before I realized that I had better work out the words first, so that I was sure they would fit on the page with the art. Thus, this page is more cramped than I'd like, and I know that second word-balloon in the top panel doesn't work very well. (Some have suggested I give it a longer tail, or something, to help make clear it goes to Easysinger.)
It should probably go without saying that in doing this project, I was indebted to plenty of references -- I looked at lots of bears, lots of wolves (primarily from Monty Sloan's site), lots of deer/eand lots of landscape photography and graphics (such as National Parks posters) for inspiration on the backgrounds!
Inked in a variety of methods (mostly basic Pilot marker and Sharpie marker, although I think there's a background here and there that I did with brush-pen; and colored with Copics and effects in Photoshop.)
