working process

I am more than proud to show you my newest commission, Chrobin To be totally honest, I was very afraid of this in the beginning. I've had some minor gay content in a secret Takumi version, but that's the farthest I've went till now. I was very afraid I would not be able to produce the same kind of romantic magic, which I strive for in my hetero pairings. As my commissioner, a very lovely lady, insisted on this romantic, I just jumped into the cold water, and I think it worked very well. I also like the pairing a lot, and I can totally see it in the game. Fire Emblem kinda has a habit of hinting some gay relationships, although there has never been an official thing, which I find sad. I think in our current time they could easily go the way of dragon age, and allow same-sex pairings to a certain extend for a small group of characters. I understand though, that it might have caused some issues in awakenings story plot xD So, back to the painting. I made some sketches, and in the end, to achieve the romantic setting, we picked this more mature version of robin and chrom, where their relationship is already advanced and feels more natural. I've written a small backstory for the sketch, which I'd like to share with those who enjoy reading
"For sketch 2 I was thinking about a more mature relationship, that's why I choose the exalted chrom version, and the two would probably look a bit older. With this outfit chrom is obviously the king by now, and robin his closest advisor. Chrom is very majestic and takes his duty very serious, but he can't help himself feeling attracted to robin when he's around. I kinda see them doing business, standing next to each other, but as there's a short break Chrom can't help himself but to slip out of his role for a second sharing a very passionate kiss with his advisor, showing him how much he means to him, before they get back to their business."
This small description was my guideline for the final image, for those who are interested I've added a little easter egg in the document that is slipping out of robins hand ^^ I quickly realized how stupid I was in suggesting exalt chrom. That armor design was a totally new level for my current skills, and it took me ages to get all the details rught in a fitting perspective. Working on Robin on the other hand was kinda like a force of habit already xD I think this must be the 4th time I've drawn that same coat design xD
In the end, I am very happy I had the opportunity to draw my first same-sex couple, I think it was a great new experience, and I'm already very excited for my next commissions
