Shadows

This is Halloween, this is Halloween Halloween, Halloween Halloween, Halloween.

Another spooky season, another spooky series of uploads hell yeah! And hot damn do I have a doozy with 15 images 14 of which are finished which I started back in May of this year even writing it down in my stash with the ideas I had from another mega brainstorm I got in the summer.

And since I really did not want to wait and I'd probably be busy in October playing the shit out of scream fortress especially now that the bots are gone I decided to start making the images then and there with that happening slowly creating them ever since has the ideas have been flowing with me technically still having a couple more but deciding to stop for now maybe saving them for next year.

And this 1st image was ironically inspired by G mod particularly the artwork section on steam I stumbled across some time ago but the major inspirations being, shadow alien by Der Zauberfötus and his other work simply titled : ) as well as The Starry Night by Vincent van Gogh: Garry's Mod Crowbar Art by PineMan which isn't technically shadows but gunshots but it still works.

However if you're familiar with SFM you'll probably realize the lighting system is much different from G mod which I quickly found out which highly limited the range and just how big the shadow could be. When I 1st imagined it in my head it was much larger with the girl going to be much smaller with it towering over her kind of like in a certain scene from killer clowns from outer space which I'm realizing was another inspiration for this. I think I did shrink her a little which I consider making her much smaller but then I'd have to change the background which also would've been more work so I said screw it no gigantic shadow for me.

The shadow itself much like it's inspirations had to be made out of mundane props like furniture things you'd find around your house and etc. and of course food which you can probably tell from the banana fingers with the shadow itself looking pretty close to what I 1st imagined although there was going to be 2 arms at 1st but no way was there room for that.

It was definitely going to be cartoony has no way could I do realism and for the most part I had avoided making items clip and using duplicates too frequently minus when they were required like the fingers. I change things around like the teeth being pizza minus possibly one but I think that may be cheese using mostly knives and similar sharp objects. Okay yes two were cheese one is a pizza slice angled sideways I just checked.

Getting the shape was relatively easy using things like rope and other round objects as well as flat things for the flat parts and filling in the body was super easy not really needing specific shapes. The arm may have been a little bit hard but once I angled things correctly moving them back and forth it all came together nicely. The only real issue besides the size is the eye on the right side is kind of thin on the side touching the outside which I probably could've made slightly bigger, but other than that this turned out fantastic!

So much so that I have extra images sort of behind the scenes which I'll probably upload after Halloween showing how I did it as I'm very proud of how this turned out. Also I'm not exactly a fan of how the girl's positioned either which I probably should've had in a different pose but hey maybe next time it's good for a 1st attempt at such a project.
