Description

Back to Gothember in November again. This time around it's Morrigan. Not Morrigan from Darkstalkers, even though her color scheme is based off of that character. She just looks like a Morrigan.

Ink on a 8.5x 11 Bristol board.

A critique from @ProjectComment, for the Everything Must Go contest:

This is a nice piece! You've really captured the "goth" vibe here, both with the clothes and the makeup, but also with the expression and the pose. Her expression is especially well done :la: The shading is also neat - especially considering the medium. It can be difficult to get nice shading in ink (and not have any accidents ) but it's really well done here, especially on the hair and the clothes. The background also has a nice texture which prevents it from looking flat and boring.

To the things you could improve. One thing I noticed here is that all the colors (with the exception of the lineart, but that doesn't really count) are quite light. If you turn the piece into black and white this is especially noticeable:

I would make some areas darker here. This would also increase the contrast of the piece, and thus make it more interesting to look at:

Another thing I notice is the wrinkles on the sleeves. Right now they do not seem to be in the right places - on the contrary, they make her arms look a bit like spaghetti. I would use some references - or just a mirror - to check how cloths look in poses like this.

But all in all this is a really nice piece, and I really like the texture and the effects of the ink here! I also really like how you did the face, and the shading on the eyelids and mouth. The darker areas here really makes the face stand out, and that's exactly how it should be. The colors are also nice and fit well together - especially the green hair and the book, which make the piece more balanced.

Keep up the good work!
