Description
In all honesty, I like the Lyra/Bonbon thing, to the point where I actually went and bought the vinyl figurines after the 100th episode. Them in the dream episode was pushing it into creepy territory, though. And the Friendship Game short was basically the show just abandoning all attempts at subtlety.
It's actually interesting to see how much screentime the two got after the 100th episode. Went from nothing to multiple references within a few episodes. Really shows the dynamic of the writers and animators working off one another; one of them does something, and then it gets multiplied and spread throughout the other creators.
Derpy is another good example of that phenomenon. Obviously she went away for a little bit after the first time she spoke. Then she had a few little appearances at the end of season three, and that was is for a long time. And then she came crashing through the door in Rainbow Falls, and suddenly she was making prominent appearances in all kinds of episodes. Thankfully, that calmed down. Not that I don't love Derpy, and not that she wasn't fricking amazing in Slice of Life, but I like background ponies staying background ponies. Nothing wrong with them coming into the foreground every once in a while, either. It's just that too much would just actually be the pandering people like to complain about so much. A little bit is fun, though.
***
Also, I'm spoiling you people. That's a comic two weeks in a row now, even if one of them was posted somewhere else first. The new art style on my art blog has been a big boost to speeding up my work there, getting me to the point where I actually am getting them finished in roughly a weekend. So expect to see things from me a bit more frequently now.
Also, it seems like my "OC" (or at least the closest thing I have to one) only makes appearances when I need to be angry about things. That's two out of three now.

I really like how much they are pushing Lyra and Bonbon together, and I hope to see more. Their relationship has to be a secret to anyone that isn't a brony.
Honestly, I wish they could actually do away with the subtlety and just have them kiss, or something. Children's shows aren't allowed to have gay couples however. It's a gross thought to me that we will never be allowed to have confirmation they are a loving couple other then these implied scenes.
Other then a hand full of examples, there are no LGB characters in child animation. There was the Sheriff and Deputy in the last episode of Gravity Falls, and then I heard there was a couple in the last episode of Legend of Kora, but that's it. Steven Universe has implied it a bit more then others, but nothing concrete. Adventure Time's writer once said that Marcella and Princess BG dated, but they aren't allowed to say that in the show, even in something as progressive as Adventure Time.
At this rate, Lyra and Bonbon's relationship has to stay in our heads until the show is over were we might seen them actually confess their love to each other, or hold hooves... but even then they won't be allowed to kiss or get married or anything.
