The walls of the cylindrical chamber became a panorama of faded images from the past, faces and voices that were familiar yet impossible to make out, and the aching dread of knowing that his show of good will would end in failure yet again.

"You tried so hard to make them happy," the Doctor continued, feigning sympathy as best as his condescending personality would allow. "You couldn't understand what you were doing wrong. They were afraid of you...ASHAMED of you... How many times did they lock you in where no one could see you? How many times did they have to deal with the angry mob while you were left alone, crying in the corner? They asked for a normal child...and were given a MONSTER..."
