Ooh, very interesting. I like the idea
I’ve had some developments of the story. Nelson is a two seat J-20 Mighty Dragon. Jessie is a woman. The devastating war in which Alaska was invaded and clobbered into the Stone Age took place 20 years ago. Coincidentally they have the same birthday. Nelson and Jessie themselves are products of the war, ‘children of the enemy.’ They didn’t witness the war, but they grew up after it. They have mixed heritage for the absolute worst reasons. When Anchorage was occupied, not all of its residents had time to flee before coming under occupation. Even worse, people still scowl at them like they’re enemy combatants, despite having no experience with wartime or knowing how terrible it was to be in Alaska at the time. They’re blamed and judged for war crimes and actions they themselves didn’t commit. This made them outcasts. Their fathers were enemies and killed in the war. Their mothers wanted nothing to do with them. As outcasts they fell together like brother and sister. As they grew older, they saw each other as lovers. They weren’t interested in the opposite sex of their own kinds. Nelson and Jessie fly together, and are very street smart. Excellent at tracking and using their heads. At the end of it all they’re just kids. 19 years old with few allies or friends.
